About Me - From Tebet With Love

About Me

Hi there, it’s me: Andari Karina Anom. Simply call me Karin or Karina. My closest relatives nickname me Mbak. It’s a Javanese phrase for “older sister”. Yes, I am the oldest in my family. I only have a sister and used to have a brother. He passed away as soon as my mom delivered him. I am blessed with a very amazing family. My dad, mom and sister are my best friends.

I was born and spent my childhood in Tebet, South Jakarta, Indonesia. Then, our family moved to Depok, West Java, where I passed most of my school years. Working for few years in Jakarta, I flew to London to pursue my master degree. You can also peep my London blog.

Now I’m back to Tebet (again) with my lovely husband and daughter. Our baby– Aisha Denanti Lebang– was born on 27 August 2007. She’s the light that shines our lives. I keep asking myself: how could I’ve lived without her before.

This website’s domain name is after her middle name: denanti. It was taken from Bahasa Padang, West Sumatera (I am half Padangese). Den nanti = Saya nanti = I wait. We choosed the name, not only because it’s beautiful (sounds like Italian name, doesn’t it?), but also represents how long we’ve been waiting for her.

In my spare time –that’s when I can “escape” from Aisha for a while or when I’m generous enough not to complain on the mess my husband creates when he’s cleaning his koi pond– I enjoy reading, movies, good food (not only wandering from warungs to restaurants but also tryng new recipe at home—only God knows what it tastes) and shopping (can’t stand those “buy 1 get 1 free”, “3 for 2″, “50 % sale”, etc). However, my favourite is doing nothing next to a cup of teh tubruk (loose jasmine tea)– preferably Tjatoet and Tong Tji–  or Coffee Toraja. WIth milk, please.
